Here’s the complete SCT BDX tuner review, explaining this tuner’s characteristics.
SCT BDX Tuner Review
To give you a complete and comprehensive review of this tuner, I will analyze it from every possible aspect.
After testing, I will tell you all you need to know about how the device looks, feels, and performs. That way, you can decide whether or not the SCT BDX is a good choice for you.
Let’s get into it.
Physical appearance and characteristics
The BDX performance programmer is built from high-quality materials. The casing is big and robust, but not as much to cause problems with one-hand operation.
Dimension-wise, the device measures 4.25 inches in width and 6.75 inches in height and is relatively thick.
On the front of the device is a full-screen LCD. Underneath there are five navigational buttons which are easy to press and tactile. A glass-like, high-quality plastic finish surrounds both the display and the buttons.
On the top of the BDX is an HDMI port connecting the device to your truck. Next to it, there is a standard USB-A port meant for charging.
Inside the box, besides the device, there is a USB cable, an OBD2 to HDMI cable, a quick start guide, and an SCT sticker.
Features
One of the most notable features of this device is its ability to increase horsepower and torque substantially. The device was tested on a Ford F150 and increased the vehicle’s performance by 39 horsepower and 49 pound-feet of torque.
Putting performance-gaining features aside, another important attribute is the Wi-Fi capability. You can connect it to the SCT servers and update the firmware without plugging it into your computer.
The device’s Wi-Fi capabilities will allow you to download and upload custom tunes on the SCT cloud. The BDX itself can only store up to 20 custom tunes.
Another excellent and helpful feature of the BDX is its ability to record data logs. You will monitor your truck’s performance using on-screen gauges. These gauges include information related to:
- Air-to-fuel ratio
- Intake air temperature
- Coolant temperature
- Transmission temperature
- Ignition timing
If you have trouble with your truck, the BDX will help by reading and clearing any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) quickly and easily.
Ultimately, if you’re unsatisfied with any of the tunes, you can use the BDX to revert to factory settings and restore your truck’s ECU to normal.
Menus, intuitiveness, and usability
Tuning your truck with the SCT BDX is straightforward.
After turning the device on, you must connect it to your vehicle using the OBD2 cable.
Once the device is connected, it will display the main menu, with six different options that you can choose from:
- Program Vehicle
- Gauges/Datalog
- Vehicle Functions
- Vehicle Info
- Device Info
- Device Settings
The Program Vehicle option lets you program your truck or car with custom tuning.
Before the tuning process starts, the device will ask if you want to sync the data with the cloud service, a feature exclusive to the BDX. It will remind you that the vehicle’s key should be in the “on” position so the ECU receives power. The programming process completes in 5-10 minutes.
The Gauges/Datalog option in the main menu allows you to monitor your vehicle’s performance constantly.
The Vehicle Functions option is the one that checks and clears any diagnostic trouble codes in your vehicle.
The Device and Vehicle options provide quick information about your vehicle or the device. The Device Settings option allows you to change parameters like display brightness, cloud sync, updates, Wi-Fi, etc.
Conclusion
The BDX performance tuner from SCT is an all-around device. It has every possible feature that an average person would need to tune their truck or car.
I hope this article helped convince you of the quality and functionality of this device and that you will choose to purchase it for your vehicle.
